In a national poll, Americans voted on the which social issues they felt were the most divisive issues facing America today, 7th on the list of 14 social issues was climate change1. In this poll, four percent of the people polled felt it was the most divisive issue in America. This number doesn’t seem large but comparatively 4 four percent of the entire population of America is a whopping 12 million people. Climate change is more then just an issue that Americans are affected by climate change. The issue that goes along and explains these changes is called global warming. Global warming is the increasing climate change due to greenhouse gases that absorb the reradiated infrared radiation of sunlight and prevent it from escaping into space2. This issue is very important because it can affect our world such as facilitate changes in our world such as melting of the polar ice caps. The largest contributor to the global warming is carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas that is emitted most out of all greenhouse gases. A new technology has been researched and developed into reducing carbon emissions; this technology is called Carbon Capture and Storage. Carbon Capture and Storage is capable of being implemented efficiently on a commercial level, which will reduce our energy footprint and lessen our impact global warming.
Carbon Capture and Storage or CCS is technologies that can be used when carbon dioxide is emitted from burning coal too generate electricity. The general way that CCS works is by trapping the carbon dioxide byproduct that is emitted in power plants and storing it for later use. CCS works in one of three ways called Oxyfuel, Precombustion, and Postcombustion. Oxyfuel works by burning the fuel in pure oxygen, which yields ...

... the short run. .
This year CCS technology is finally on the verge of breaking through in actual large power plants. Two power plants in North America, one in Mississippi and the other in Canada have made the push for the advancements in the CCS field and if these advancements come to play this year the reduce in emissions and lessen our effect on global warming. The one objection that makes these plants difficult in implementing the use of CCS in power plants are the financial struggles and delays that they have12. If America could setup up more plants there would be a huge decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. If these power plants successfully use CCS, and the technology can be replicated in every other power plant across the world, it will be a positive environmental breakthrough that can severely change humans’ heavy detrimental effects on the world we live in.
